Mindful Tea Meditation (Ceremonies / Rituals / Circles)

These are small mindful tea meditation experiences for small groups of meditators, or those who enjoy silent reflective time. Tea meditation is an ancient tradition which can feel primal and often ‘cosmic’, connecting us to the sublime wonders of life.

Winter Solstice Tea Meditation at the Tile House, Preston Park, Brighton, December 2022.

THANK YOU to those who made the Spring / Chinese New Year tea meditation at Gather Brighton (pictured) so lovely. We had good snacks, good conversation and an excellent community vibe – followed by lunch at New Era restaurant. See my post instagram.

Tea meditation is a place where you can immerse yourself in the ritual of steam, stillness and the sensory pleasure of absorbing the aroma and notes of superior quality puerh, white, oolong and other beautiful teas, in a reflective space – for one to two hours.

This is a time to switch off and just be with others without the pressure to talk or respond. There is usually an optional short conversation at the end about your tea experience, but never any pressure to speak.

Tea meditation at Flow Fest, Sussex, summer 2024.

I’ve always loved tea and the feeling of comfort that a simple cup of hot tea can bring. It’s reliable in difficult times and offers us a break from modern hectic lifestyles.

From 2019 – 2020, I spent 8 months living in a Buddhist-style tea community, where we practised tea mediation daily, often for several hours. In these meditations, my mind felt so peaceful, rested and very connected to the aliveness and magic of life.

The pleasure of sitting in a group watching the tea being served, receiving multiple cups of nourishing tea was such a joy and something to treasure. I just wanted to do it over and over again! And I do, as many days of the week as I can, particularly over the winter.

For me, tea mediation circles can bring a sense of comfort, peace and a safe haven. Ask for more information on how you can join in-person or online, or bring a tea meditation experience to your group.

I wanted to continue this practise for myself and offer it to others and since the end of Covid lockdowns, I’ve enjoyed running multiple tea meditations at group events, festivals, retreats and more.

These tea circles can work equally well with a group who know each other or a group sitting together for the first time. Sometimes there are strange ‘coincidences’. For Chinese New Year tea in 2024, for example, our group of 8 featured at least 4 Fire Dragons (Chinese astrology)!
