Harry Styles and qigong

Go to 15 minutes, 14 seconds in this YouTube video to see Harry Styles doing what I’m sure is qigong. It very much looks like the ex-One Direction singer was trying to ground himself with some deep breathing and movement, as we often do in our qigong practise.

Styles isn’t the first celebrity into qigong, even though most of his fans probably wouldn’t know what he was doing. But, it always gives me a flicker of excitement when high profile people appear to be interested in qigong because it makes me hopeful that more folk will find the absolute joy and pure calm that can be found through it.

This ancient art brings me into stillness and connection with myself in a way that nothing else does. I was also really happy to see the leader of Hong Kong, John Lee, also talked about the powers of qigong this week. In this article, Lee says he recovers his energy more through qigong than through sleep. What a great advert for qigong and its energy restoring abilities.

The piece, which can be found inside the South China Morning Post, said that Lee has practised qigong for more than two decades, and that he was ““very conscious” of the need to maintain his health as he needed it – and a fresh mind – “to do things that are of importance for society”.”

Do you feel inspired to join Styles and Lee (probably not in person!)? You can message me to join my Wednesday online class!
