Now is the optimal time for heart healing in Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM (the system that governs qigong). Every Wednesday online (email me to join) and in public classes we’re focusing on heart healing and health for the next 5 weeks – to boost our physical and energetic heart health.
What movement helps your heart?
In qigong, it’s said that movements which take the arms above the head are helpful for getting the blood and qi flowing around the heart more easily, and that can boost our heart health. Be careful not to overdo it if you have heart issues and speak to your doctor first about any exercises you’d like to do. Movements which involve twisting the wrists can also be good for opening up the pathways and meridians into the heart and keep the energy flowing easily.
Foods to support heart health
In TCM red foods, like strawberries, berries and tomatoes are said to help heart health.
What practises can support heart health?
In TCM there are lots of practises that are said to support heart health and they are said to have an extra positive affect if we do them in the summer. These include, spending time in community, enjoying games and fun, comedy, laughing, sharing meals with loved ones and of course, gentle, uplifting energising qigong movement!
Why work on energetic heart health?
Using TCM and qigong to support heart qi can help the body function more effectively, give us more energy all around, help us feel more compassion for ourselves and others and it can help balance our mind.
It’s said that if the heart is out of balance, it can unbalance the mind and vice versa. Take time to see how much community, exercise and fun you need, and there’s no need to overdo it when you need quiet time. Just remember that if you’re feeling the need for more fun, community and exercise, you might be following what your heart needs to blossom.
